I’ve finished the painting of Scroll 2 now, which I’ll upload in a separate blog, and have moved onto experimenting with acrylic inks for scroll 3. This one is much bigger, focusing on tree formations which I want to use the dripping and spreading of ink to represent. A few things happened that I love. The dotting and dripping of ink, to then spread down like tree trunks, the merging of colours on the canvas itself. I also realised that my masking tape wasn’t going to cut it as a barrier, but created really interesting grounding to the trunks. I’ve now got some water proof masking tape, but still plan to use the tape down below to stick onto the canvas to create a base for the trunk. The ripping off of the tape creates a texture I like.

On one of my walks, I took photos of tree patterns for inspiration. I’ve also bought some metallic inks, as the set I have is coming across too saturated and deviating from the natural colours I’ve used on the other two scrolls, I will potentially used the brighter colours towards the bottom of the piece, representing the distortion doomscrolling can have on the mind.

Going to do a few more experiments with the new inks, whilst replicating patterns I see in the below photos before I begin the piece itself.
