I had the pleasure of exhibiting at ‘Modern Renaissance’ where a group of women from Science, Tech and Art gathered together to discuss the future of AI systems and creativity. We discussed philosophical and societal effects of the increase in AI and the development of AGI.
I chose to display my scroll in a wave, relating to and reflecting the dopaminergic up and downs of doomscrolling, not only is it the content that we see, but the emotions created that effect us when scrolling through online video.
I decided to use childrens play blocks to do this, the first interaction we have with tactile craft and in direct opposition of ‘iPad Kids’
This took the piece from a flat painting or a 3D scroll, and turned it into a sculptural piece to the viewer, they told me they wanted to ‘get under it’ ‘slide down it’ and they felt the feeling of the emotional ups and downs much more clearly with the movement that I’d added into the piece with the blocks.
I’m still awaiting the professional photographs of the piece but I have the photos below, two from when I set it up, and one from Chengxi (founder of the group and an AI research company) social media post.
