In the throws of a spurt of creation. One a smaller clay ‘thing’ I would hesitate to call it sculpture, wrapped and trapped in wire. I am creating a felt phone to then embroider on. Currently the wire I have doesn’t hold the felt up so I’ve ordered some stronger wire to hopefully keep it upright.

My clay sculpture represents the human form trapped in amongst the wires of digital. Suppressed and held hostage by the algorithm. I’m hoping that the new wire will hold the ‘phone’ upright. Tomorrow I’ll glaze the sculpture, though it will be over the wire itself because I created it with the wire digging in so that it disappears inside and is part of the clay form.

I’ve felt quite content making this piece, I feel it’s the closest to a ‘ritualistic’ practice I’ve gotten.

I’m also beginning my projection piece whenever the hooks I have for my wall to hang the canvas on arrives.

I’m also working on some white oil pencil on black A4. These are ‘turn your brain off and just make marks’ practice. A large pile of paper I aim to just gently go through over the coming months, much like my writing.

I’m still churning along with ‘Mechanical Gut’, I now have wire running through tubing that I’m going to use for the small intestine which I drew through using cotton and a weight. I found the container for the small intestine in the form of a see through baby bath. The tubing will sit inside in a messy disjointed way rather than me having to have fixings all over the metal tubing which would distract from the material.

I’m currently working out how to attach the metal tube to the baby bath, which will sit vertically so it needs to be a sturdy attachmeant, and then I’ll find a backing for the entire thing so that the plastic tubing is enclosed in the bath. The wires will then sprawl out over which ever wall I end up displaying it on, either connecting to a digital screen or a felt one much like the one I’m creating above. I feel it will be real.

I completely rewrote my study statement yesterday which I think is helping me to move forward. I’ve also started scribbling away with white pencil on black paper inbetween tasks.
